DIY Beauty: How to Make Your Own Coffee Body Scrub

A few days ago I was walking around the beauty store and grabbed the most visually pleasing coffee body scrub I’ve ever seen. The price was pretty high too. I looked at the back label, and with absolute astonishment realized that I had in my home all the ingredients from the list! Needless to say, a few hours later I was covered in grounded coffee beans- without purchasing anything. Oh it was phenomenal.

Benefits Of Coffee Body Scrub

What attracted me to it, initially, was cellulite on my thighs. Coffee is known to improve circulation and remove excess water from the skin, making it exceptionally good in cellulite reduction. It also reduces inflammation and body acne, depuffs swollen areas and prevents premature aging.

On the side note: The smell of coffee reduces stress and anxiety.

Other Ingredients and Their Benefits

You will find olive oil as the second ingredient in coffee by scrub, which is practically a synonym for health and well-being. Benefits: anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, moisturizing, increase of collagen production and anti-aging.

Then there is (sea) salt. It reduces swelling and wrinkles, it absorbs toxins in the body and promotes healing of the skin. And the magnesium in it is anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial (say goodbye to acne).

Virgin coconut oil. We could write a book on the benefits of it- but some of the most remarkable ones are: reduces redness, protects and smooths the skin, antioxidant. Also, in combination with coffee beans- smells heavenly.

Vitamin E oil aka the holy grail: Anti-aging, healing, cancer prevention, reduces symptoms of eczema, psoriasis, minimizing the appearance of scars… and much more.

Grapefruit essential oil– antibacterial, antioxidant, brightening, great source of vitamin C… Also, the smell of it improves mood and lowers the stress- hooray!

Easy Coffee body scrub Recipe

These are approximate measurements, and you don’t have to follow them by heart. If you don’t have something- feel free to replace it with something else. That is, everything besides the coffee:

  • 1/2 cup of finely grind coffee beans (if you are buying it- it’s the coffee for an espresso machine or Turkish coffee)
  • 1/4 of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of virgin coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil (almond oil is a great substitute)
  • 30 drops of grapefruit essential oil

Put all the ingredients into the jar of choice and mix it thoroughly. Keep it cool, dry, away from the sunlight and use it in the next 3 months. Consider getting a small spatula that will prevent you from dipping wet fingers into the jar- since any contact with water makes it go bad faster. Any weird smell or discoloration means it’s time for a new batch.

How To Use It

In the shower, wet your body and turn off the water. Cover your whole body in scrub and rub it in the circular motion. Rinse. Use it 2-3 times per week for the glowy skin.

If you would like to use it on your face, that’s cool just patch test first, as skin on the face is much more sensitive than the rest of the body. Oh yeah, and probably obvious but keep it away from your eye area.

Bonus Tip

Don’t just rub it (while thinking about work or what you are doing next) and call it a day. Make a ritual out of it- create a nice atmosphere by bringing in the scents and sounds with aromatherapy and calming music. Maybe some vibey candle or sage even. You know, make it special.
