10 Reasons Why I Love Buddhism

At first glance, Buddhism may seem to be just about chanting, the rhythmic clinking of beads, and the pursuit of tranquil mindfulness. It’s easy to imagine oneself in a peaceful lotus pose for hours, though in reality, it might just be a few minutes. The thought of attaining a Zen-like state, where nothing can disturb your inner calm, is undoubtedly appealing. However, as I delved deeper into the teachings of Buddhism, I found that it is so much more than learning to keep cool under pressure. Here are ten reasons why I appreciate Buddhism:

1. Peace

Buddhism inspires a continuous search for peace, not just in the external environment, but more importantly, within oneself. This path encourages one to choose peace over anger and frustration. The Eightfold Path, one of the core teachings of Buddhism, underscores right understanding, right intention, right speech, and right action, all of which aim to promote harmony and peace.

2. Compassion

Compassion is central to Buddhist philosophy, with the practice of loving-kindness meditation, known as Metta Bhavana, emphasizing the cultivation of goodwill towards all beings. This practice pushes one to extend understanding and empathy, making interactions with others feel almost like a compassionate play, regardless of the circumstances.
